Yes, time to update the blog as well as to see if I can still construct English sentences. Alhamdulillah, I can.. Thank you!!!! :)

Looks like there are many excuses I have given to myself and others for not writing the entries (technically, typing) for some time. School work (tahun ni aku jadi guru PSS-tetap dan berpencen, guru kelas tahun 4-penuh dengan tawa nangis oleh budak, oh ya guru inventori, YOU! ntah apa kejadah aku kena buat, guru penyelaras persatuan kebudayaan-oh Glee lah gamaknye, guru takwim dan jadual waktu-ni pun mcm tetap dan berpencen je, ketua panitia BI-mcm dah tercop kat dahi je, and not forgetting, teaching 31 periods for Year 1, 4, 5 and 6.duh! KSSR lagi.. ) ok enough with the blab on the teaching.. Hey Matno, you are not the only one okeh! So, shut the **** up! Muaah!:p

In January, the school was hit with flood.. Again, I was extremely happy but this time, the flood was terrible.. Worse than the last year.. I have snapped some pictures for you to judge.. Kasihanilah kami di pedalaman. We still went to the classes to teach, you know, despite the fact that water-snakes were having some gala time feasting on the 'temporary-filled with amphibians-pool' created by the heavy rain!

Was looking at all my audio files in the laptop and came to realize that I don't have much of Dato' Siti Nurhaliza's songs! Gosh, what has happened to me? I have been listening to a variety of music for a while and have stopped being a fanatic lunatic fan of that Dato'! cool ke? :p Syitah would be very happy, I guess..

Aceh and I..

15 February 2010 in Acheh.

My eyes were widely opened (I mean, the one outside and the one in-sight!) when I saw the left over wreckage in Banda Aceh from the Tsunami which hit this part of the world in 2004.

Seriously, I was filled with mixed emotions when the Adik tour guide explained and detailed everything to me one by one, putting it in his own words on how he personally survived from the Tsunami. There was a long scar on his stomach which will never be forgotten by him.

These pictures (not all I have attached here), will tell you some of my own viewing of the affected area. Although it has been 6 years now, the feel of the tremor is still embroidered somewhere in the pillars of their hearts. Let's say some prayers for the ones who have passed on before us so that there will be someone who will say prayers to us when we leave... Al Fatihah..

Weddings!
Yeah, one of my best friend, Tina, got married to Asri. Very sweet guy. Tina, please always remember that you are married, leave off your GEDIKNESS ok.. hehehe.. You are one gem and you have got one for yourself too!

Divorce!
yeah, someone close to my heart got divorced! The husband is really a nutcase to leave her alone for months and bibidi bobodi boo.. He was back in his own country.. Yeah, she got married to a Pakistani. She has been with him for four years and now, she is doing it all herself. May she find a better person. Allah's tests are accountable for us because we are not tested beyond our capabilities.. Insyallah!

Proposal!
Yeah, I have proposed to a girl whom I love so much (silently) that I am ready to marry her and if she was ready too.. AND YES, SHE SAID "SAYA BERSETUJU BERKAHWIN DGN MUHAMMAD NOOR BIN ABDUL AZIZ" Yabe da be dooooo!

Birth!
Yeah, One of my cousins gave birth to a pair of twins! She has 3 sons and has always been working and hoping for a girl and bibidi bobodi boo.. there came a pair of beautiful plump girls out of her womb! Congrats sis!

Death!
Yeah, Tina's grandmother and her mother in-law passed away very recently. May Allah accompany their souls THERE.. As for Tina, two new birth are definitely going to make all your family members and in laws happy.. AGAIN.. Insyallah!

I guess, it is enough as for now. Hopefully, I will have the time and opportunity to write again. and of course with lots of PICTURES! :p

I feel so blessed with a name! I mean, a name which carries along a beautiful meaning with it. So, why call a person "Botak, Bulat, Bob"? etc..

It always infuriates me when a person calls me/others name that is not registered in our birth cert! I will be annoyed. No wonder I am not used to calling my friends names other than what was 'tahnik'ed on him/her.

Since my younger years, I have always despised people calling me/others names that are not ours. But as time flies, I realize that there are people who like it or used to it. I mean, used to the "new" names given. Whenever there is a seminar, new college enrollment or so forth, they would definitely be people who come with some names for the "not-so-famous-in-the-group".

What does a full-fledged teacher mean?

A teacher who-
1)has passed the SPP interview and being promoted as a permanent government officer?
2)has successfully completed his/her probation period?
3)has now got his/her license to behave like what he/she wants?

All of the above, I think, and ...

~A full-fledged teacher is one who is able to rationalize what he/she is doing without giving senseless reasons for his/her actions..
~A full-fledged teacher is one who is now, accountable for everything he/she does in and outside of the classroom as long as teaching and learning, pupils, staff and school property as well as the contract that he/she is expected to abide by are concerned..
~A full-fledged teacher is one who is able to leave aside his/her predicaments despite any situations he/she may be in and be able to contribute whatever he/she can..

and finally,

~A full-fledged teacher is one who knows what he/she is doing and making sure what/she is doing is right and always is!

Aku ke kamar mandi utk membersihkan diri dan berwudhuk. Tatkala matahari memancarkan sinarnya, tegak di atas kepala, aku tidak keseorangan dalam kamar mandi itu. Aku telah dikunjungi makhluk lain bernama.... Naagin (dalam bahasa Hindi)

Tersangatlah terkejut aku, lalu aku pun lari keluar dan memanggil rerakan lain yang sedang beristerirehat di bilik masing2.. Semua turun utk melihat apakah yang dijeritkan oleh si sir ni!

Rupa-rupanya, kawan Naaginku telah datang utk menjengukku.. Aduh!! Sungguh salah timing dan venue nya utk menyampaikan salam raja Naag kepadaku, wahai Amrita!

So, in the end, itulah nasib kawanku, naagin tu..

Masa tadika dulu, mak aku ckp kalau tak belajar rajin2, takle graduate.. so, aku pon belajarlah rajin2.. and finally I graduated!

Pastu, aku pon belajar dan belajar dan belajar (eh.. aku nakal gak.. ada gak main2, lazer sana sini dgn mulut capoi aku ni..) aku dapat gak masuk Unibersiti.. Mak pak aku sgtlah bangga anak sulung depa dapat masuk U, siap depa wat kenduri woo.. terharu gak la aku.. pakcik2 aku siap top up untuk kenduri tu and depa wat kat umah tok aku.. huhuh.. aku rasa mcm raja je pada hari dibacakan doa selamat, my youngest paternal uncle a.k.a pak haji kat family kami letak aku tengah2 bulatan yg diorg buat utk bacaan yasin.. tersipu-sipu aku.. hehe.. pastu aku didoakan.. aku pon tawaf la utk salam semua makhluk yg ada dalam circle tu.. hikhik.. praktis utk majlis nikah yg ntah bila akan diadakan..

And on 18th october 2008, I finally graduated from UUM.. mak pak aku sgt la seronok..

- I miss my parents and family so much that I was searching for something on the Internet and found this story. Happy Day, Everyone! -

I ran into a stranger a she passed by, "Oh excuse me please" was my reply. She said, "Please excuse me too; I wasn't watching for you." We were very polite, this stranger and I. We went on our way and we said good-bye.

But at home a different story is told. How we treat our loved ones, young and old. Later that day, cooking the evening meal, My son stood beside me very still. When I turned, I nearly knocked him down. "Move out of the way," I said with a frown. He walked away,his little heart broken. I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed, God's still small voice came to me and said, "While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use, but the children you love, you seem to abuse. Go and look on the kitchen floor, You'll find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers he brought for you. He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue. He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise, you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.

"By this time, I felt very small, And now my tears began to fall. I quietly went and knelt by his bed; "Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.
"Are these the flowers you picked for me? He smiled,"I found 'em, out by the tree. I picked 'em because they're pretty like you. I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today; I shouldn't have yelled at you that way." He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you too, and I do like the flowers, especially theb lue."

~Are you aware that if we died tomorrow,the company that we are
working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.(Would they ever think about us? Maybe a condolence note to our family and that's it!!) But the family we left behind, will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family. An unwise investment indeed, don't you think??~

Dah berkali-kali aku cakap jangan tanya aku bila aku nak kahwin!
Dah aku tulis, cakap, maki, psiko, senyum, marah, sms, call, merajuk dan mcm2 mode and medium aku guna untuk sampaikan mesej aku tapi masih tak paham lagik!

Tadau Kaamatan Opening Ceremony

Pesta Keaamatan!

It has started in Sabah. All I have been waiting for! It was a treat for me, I guess. When I reached KK, the taxi uncle told me that Keaamatan Festival will be officiated at 8pm! I looked at my watch and it was 7.30pm!!!

I rushed into the hotel, prayed and walked straight to DBKK open area to snap pictures of everything that smelled of Kaamatan! Firstly, I captured (of course, with permission, Syitah!)the pictures of these ladies and gentlemen. Their costume reminded me of Acid, Aizu, Jehan, Cindy, Eliesa and Victoria (My TEYL classmates back in maktab when they performed during Malam Gerko!)

Then I walked around and saw this array of stalls or huts or whatever you name it that sell and display local handicrafts and delicacies.

They had a number of stalls, they did explain about the stuffs they sell

A troop of musicians and dancers (they are old, but they are GOLD)

Then, the colours of Sabah started to glow and blow into the air...

The Sumazau dance performance from the Kadazan Dusun Ethnic of Sabah.. Superb!

A marvellous show by the Muruts (got to know from the emcee that the Muruts were the last to give up Head-Hunting in Sabah)

This one really caught my attention and the Sumandaks really danced very gracefully and their movements were lightning swift- The Bamboo dance, another Murut performance on thanksgiving for paddy!

Yesterday, for the second time in life, I cooked another mousedeer. huhuh... although it looked pitiful, it was really tasty..

After we got it, Ustad slaughtered it (actually I recorded the slaughtering process but due to respect some of my blog readers who can't stand blood, so I decided not to upload it). Then, happened to be it was Wednesday, and it was my turn to cook lunch and dinner, so, this Penangite cooked his special masala curry for dinner.. and this is the product...

There was once a teacher, a male, a short but steady, taught us Maths and made all of us love Maths till today.

He was so wonderful that he had never even once raised his voice to scold us even though we were all satanic and monkeyish in the classroom.

That perfect teacher was so persistent in teaching us and as a result, all of us had 4 books compiled together in each Maths A, B, C and D exercise books (it means, we all had 16 books each and everyone of us, he encouraged us to glue the books together to motivate us and to tell us that we were all Genius in Maths..)

He was Mr Dahlan from SMK Abdullah Munshi.. I really really really miss him.. I feel so blessed to be able to meet him during Farah's wedding last year before I flew to Sabah and also was so happy to meet him during our Pesta Pulau Pinang rendezvous and listened to his short but informative advice on how to move on in life.

I feel bad because I could not attend his funeral and I got to know his demise very late.. everything happens for a reason, i guess..

I pray that Allah S.W.T will place this wonderful, beautiful and magnificent soul among His faithful servants and bless this good man with His love and care..

"Baby Naming Day"-- Tahnik Day...

(dah lama nak edit entry ni, tapi tak terlaksana, dan hampit terlupa.. today, i try my best...tu pon sebab abg fadhlah dah hint kat entry dia.. heheh..)

Hello People.. Recently I went for a program in my kampung. It was the christening of baby.. hari menamakan budak.. ni function kat umah muslim.. (i can't find the term in english.. baby naming day???! sorry).

I have never seen many activities done here back in Penang. I am not sure if you guys were exposed with such activties.

Firstly, the imam said some prayers- they read Yasin and some selawat and Tahlil.. Later on, i saw a long stick-looking-weighing-scale-like cradle (or whatever you guys will call it) used to put the baby on one side of it and the other side was occupied with rice(not the cooked ones) and the imam would put the rice as much as the weight of the baby.

After that,the rice was cooked and given to the villagers.. mcm sedekah la.. these pictures will tell you what happened la ok..

ATTITUDE huh?!?

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company…a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so, it is with you…we are in charge of our ATTITUDES!

p/s- I did not compose this, I got it from somewhere I can't remember. I forgot to jot down the person's name. Apologies.. Whatever it is, I strongly agree with the writer and May God bless the writer for sharing this with us!

When I came back to school after the two weeks (I tak ponteng sekolah okay, ada kursus tau!),
I was informed that Pendekar (our pet dog), has passed away! I was very down since yesterday. Feeling a little bit better today. And Pendekar becomes my latest blog entry..

Pendekar has always been the obedient type and he was, of course, NOT one of the gangs which entered our house without permission and made a mess and ended up, we had to purify(samak) our house.. He has always been the one who will follow you for 30minutes to Pengakalan and wait until your boat leaves..

He has also been the kind but over-protective dog which always made sure that our school is not attacked by 'outsiders' like -- other dogs, buffaloes, cows and goats.. at times, those animals did come in uninvited when Pendekar was not around.. and now, he is gone forever..

I have always admired his courage and strength because he could always wait for us and he would never jump onto if he saw any food..

Now, I am going to miss him so much.. I am going to miss his agility, his looks, his obedience, his barks, and all in all, his ever-waiting eyes...

IT WAS ALL BECAUSE OF THE FREAKING F**KING INTERVIEW!

I just did not understand why out of all the people who attended the interview (out of all the Science teachers there), I was asked about oxygens and cloroflourocarbon (pardon me if the spelling is wrong, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN NOW!) and how photosynthesis happens and what was the name of the "stesen janakuasa di russia yg digunakan utk melepaskan pesawat roket apebenda ntah yg dinaiki oleh dua org ~~wartawan~~.. opss... angkasawan ke angkasa lepas!!!

I did not imagine of that questions at all!!

Why ..Oh.. Why...

Now he (the pakcik-looking interviewer) has left me with endless question marks popping out all the time (of course to get my facts right and most importantly, ) thinking if I passed the INTERVIEW..

Aku dah menyampah la dgn interview! aku harap interviewer tu luluskan aku je.. ntah ape benda aku merepek kat dia aku pon tatau! Hell with it!

At least I did make him laugh and he did not make me laugh.. (aku ckp aku ajor English kat sekolah tapi budak2 reply kat aku dalam Bahasa Kagayan when he was just taking a sip from his glass of water and oleh sebab terkedu dgn apa aku ckp, ayer pon tumpah la sikit2 dan nampaklah ketidakprofessionalan dia minum ayer.. Kot2 pasai tu dia tanya soalan mcm mana oksigen terbentuk and he wanted the chemical equation from me! So much for getting a "C" in my chemistry 8 years ago!!

Hmm.. Had fun during the short one week break with my beloved friends.. It was so wonderful and I really forgot all my mishaps and work and problems and whatever not back at school...

(Shoba and I.. My fighting Akka.. I just don't know why I always fight with her but I love her so much so that she is always my best akka --Suga, ang pon kakak yg baik jugak.. Jadi jgn jeles!)

Now, I am packing up my stuffs to go back to Banggi.. Hmm.. Moral obligations, so to speak (quoting Dzull here)

Sorry for not updating my blog for sometime.. Been enjoying some time in Sandakan and Kundasang. Dear TEYLians and other friends, Kundasang is a better place for honeymoon (So, Fairuz, keep Cameron Highlands to yourself, huh!)

At a certain moment, a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped..

When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And please don't call this my deathbed! Let it be called the "Bed of Life", and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives..

Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman..

Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain..

Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play..

Give my kidneys to the one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week..

Take my bones, every muscle, every fibre and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk..

Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, let them grow so that someday a speechless boy will shout out at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window..

Trials, turbulation and excitement..

Came out to Kudat with lots of anger bottled up. Boat uncle forgot to pick us up. Ended up boarding another boat (thank Allah) which happened to pass the river while the crocs were planning something on us (i think so)..

While waiting at the jetty in Kampung Palak, I was so shocked, mesmerized and at the same time prayed very hard. My Year 1, little bambino, Alina, was steering a boat!!! It was her turn (every friday afternoon--and i just got to know that when it has been happening continuously for three months) to be the boatwoman of the day. She was so confident, of course, no life jacket on her body, with the kain sarung of the school uniform all neatly wrapped up (like she was about to perform Silambam!)and with one hand steering the boat and another waving at this pathetic semenanjung teacher with soon-to-get-a-heart-attack look on his oily yet full of worry face!

I have never steered a boat all my life. When I was talking to this pengkalan lady(oh yah, i waited for my the second boat to pick me up to Karakit--of course I can't join Alina because they were going back home and not to Karakit), I got to know all the stories about Alina and her family. It was her father's boat that the girl was using and there were four of them. The brothers would start the engine and they take turns to be the boatmen/boatwoman. They travel around one hour plus every day without fail (unless if it rains cats and dogs, of, course they can't make it)to school.

All I could say were endless prayers to Allah to save them from any thinkable and unthinkable disasters. Only ALLAH is their saviour and they have each other's support accompanying them.

Feeling of being observed..

I am so nervous, my friends. Tomorrow, I will be observed by my Boss. Getting the shit out of me right now. Butterflies fluttering so freely in my stomach. I wonder they are looking for the way out, and wait, you butterflies, i will flush you into the toilet bowl very soon...

Just can't used to the idea of observation and being observed. What a teacher I am! i have been dreading the observation for weeks and now, my turn has come. adoi...

last year, my boss did observe me, but he was not in the class technically, he was outside the class and gave glances and glimpses on what the hell I was doing with my Year One bambinoes! and at last, his comment was - "Kau tak rasa malu ka menyanyi dan menari dgn Tahun 1?" and i spontaneously said , "ndak, saya ndak malu. saya suka ajar dgn music dan pictures dan actions". He told me "Kau memang guru maktab. sekrang ni susah mau tgk cigu dekat sama dgn budak. kau buleh pergi jauh, bah, sir.." i was flattered that day but then today, i am nervous.

i just don't like to be observed, and i don't know why. do you guys love observations? i think some love it, but many don't. i feel like i am making a clown out of myself each time someone observes me.

To end this entry, i would love to share an experience during practicum when my lecturer Mr Teoh came to observe my teaching the very first time. I practically warned him not to look me right into my eyes when i was teaching and he was so obedient, he did not. hahahaha. so cute of him, he sat and faced to the left side of the class, looking at what the kids were doing and in the end he told me he had some difficulty turning in front and sideways because i made him stare at the kids work for one hour! hahahahahaha

Out of a sudden, I got some comments in my blog entries by these "alienated" soul who disguised himself in the beautiful name "AHMAD". For my friends who do not understand Arabic, Ahmad in Arabic means All the praises (which are meant only for Allah).

I was dumbstruck as well as dumbfounded to read such comments from him, who may have known me and may not (i guess, he knows me but he has not been in touch for years and now, as some guilt is rushing up or perhaps out of curiosity on what I am up to right now, he wrote some comments that vividly portrayed his BEHAVIOUR!)

anyway, that was not the point. You may study or have studied in the most prestigious university or whatever you call it, but all that shows out from your comments can be said that you do have not learnt ANY SINGLE THING pertaining to life and how you deal with it!

thank you for the comments which I know you would have meant to humiliate me (as it may have always been your attitude to do that to others whom you feel are superior in any sense and whom you feel should be under your control in any ways)

Islam teaches lots and lots of politeness. If I said anything that have hurt you, i am sorry. But you really did something that could tarnish my image but I don't give a damn on what you have got to say because I pretty know you do not know me as much as I know you!

Just remember, what allah has given you can be taken away from you any moment he wants just like what he may have done to you in the past. You do not introspect, I guess, because you may be someone who is easily contented with what you have!

p/s- ahmad, mind your grammar! When you use "You", it is a plural subject, so, it should be followed by plural verb "Suck" not "Sucks".. mind you, I am a full-fledged ENGLISH TEACHER! and vulgarities just make you more stupid in every ways it could. Include more dzikir in your words, it eases your pain alot!

G.U.R.U. !?!

Was thinking of what happened in my Year 2 and 3 class this morning. I was teaching them about the parts of a house. Was so excitedly talking about living room, bathroom, dining room, bedroom and the kitchen. My question to the kids , "How many rooms do you have in your house--i mean bedroom?" One witty boy answered, there are two bedrooms but we don't have attached bathroom like you do in Penang! (of course, he answered in Malay). That did not strike anything in me, but the other answer did.. That was "Sir, I don't have any rooms in my house. Our living room is the kitchen, the bedroom, and that is where we study and play. And, we don't have a bathroom. Our bathroom is near the well water."

I was really taken aback by that particular answer. I was quiet for a while, but feeling of guilt rushed up to my mind and I was very emotional then. But I gained my conscious again, and I made the lesson understandable by showing them some pictures and asked them to draw what they want their own houses to look like in the future.

Those kids took that back home, hopefully they will come up with something interesting to surprise me. Well, friends, as a teacher, I have more to explore and even more to discover.

Back in the quarters, I was sharing that incident with Cikgu Malik. He said those kids in the school, many of them have not even been to Kudat. Whatmore KK or Peninsula. He also shared something with me. He said the villagers relied on the teachers most of the time. He said that even their IC registration has to be done by the teachers because many parents were Philipinos.

Then he told me on what I wrote on the title of this entry-- Guna Untuk Rakyat Umum (G.U.R.U.)

Hura...Hura...

I felt so discombobulated! (hahahaha..syitah's gona hate me for this).

It was like God gave us the Internet connection in the school and later he took it back and later on, after four days, we got it back! what a relief!! fuihhhhhh...

A sense of appreciation, a word of thank you and in simple, SYUKUR ALHAMDULILLAH! i did not do any of that, I guess... hmmm...

Well, I feel gratitude is the key. We should always acknowledge the entity/person or anything that gives us happiness, delight and comfort--just like the Internet Connection.

That's all for now, have got lots of emails to read and respond.

Important Lessons in Life..

1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady.
During my second month of college, our professor
gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
and had breezed through the questions until I read
the last one:
'What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?'
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
dark-haired and in her 50's, but how would I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
the last question would count toward our quiz grade.
'Absolutely,' said the professor. 'In your careers,
you will meet many people. All are significant. They
deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
is smile and say 'hello.'
I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her
name was Dorothy.

2. - Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain
One night, at 11:3 0 p.m., an older African American
woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had
broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
unheard of in those conflict-filled 60s.. The man
took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
put her into a taxicab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a
giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
special note was attached..
It read:
'Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
the other night. The rain drenched not only my
clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
husband's bedside just before he passed away.. God
Bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
others.'

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those who serve.
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
'How much is an ice cream sundae?' he asked.
'Fifty cents,' replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and
studied the coins in it.
'Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?' he inquired.
By now more people were waiting for a table and the
waitress was growing impatient.
'Thirty-five cents,' she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins.
'I'll have the plain ice cream,' he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice
cream, paid the cashier and left. When the waitress
came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the
table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,
were two nickels and five pennies..
You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had
to have enough left to leave her a tip.
4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path.
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
King's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving when it counts...
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her only
chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness. The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.
I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, 'Yes I'll do it if it will
save her.' As the transfusion progressed, he lay in
bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did,
seeing the color returning to her cheek. Then his
face grew pale and his smile faded.
He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, 'Will I start to die right away?'.
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her but he had chosen to save her anyway.

'Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody's watching.'

Observations and Practicum and Teaching and Whatever!

This morning a teacher from my school was observed by his lecturer from IP Kent. Hmm... I think my fellow TEYLians will be in the seventh heaven if they read this post.. What happens was, this was the first and last observation by the lecturer! it means, his PR1 and PR2 for major and minor were carried out today. He was in a total wreck! Moody, (like I was not during practicum, and still am!wink wink) his lesson plans were in a total mess(you guys must know that they have to print out their lesson plans and attach it in their folder) but his ABM was superb. He is a guru pemulihan..

That is not the issue.. What I realize was the lecturer concern was not happy with his teaching and he was commented (yup critical comments, as our lecturers would say!). His PR2 was affected in some ways. Mcm tak adil plak aku rasa. It was all because the lecturer could not come to the school as often as our lecturers (my school pedalaman dua--itu sebabnye??!!!!), and my fellow colleague was expected to give his bestest best shot for the first time observation!! sungguh tak adil!

during my practicum period, mr teoh objected to enter the class once because he was leaving for maktab to officiate their debate competition when I did not sleep the whole night during a piece of teaching aid (the puzzle which was my best teaching aid). I was in a total madness and nearly attacked him and he changed his mind and stayed! yoooooohooooooooooooooooo!!

Tapi bila aku pikir balik arini, sian mr teoh sebab aku kacau hidup dia aritu.. tapi kan, you would know how i planned my work and how devastated i was to only know that it would be scrapped down! what a blessing though, huh?!

ntahlah, rasa mcm nak tulis pasal apa yg berlaku pagi tadi, tu je.. lagipon, yati dan syitah dah hint yang i have not updated my blog , so, here it is, bacelah!

Coming back to the title, it reminds me of my UUM days. TEYLians knew about the "Dry" lesson which was mistaken for "dry lecturer".

Entah, tetiba bincang dgn syitah, dzull and reen sat tadi.. pikir punya pikir, rasa funny plak when your serious-not-understanding the topic taught can be considered as an insult by someone elso..

Takpela, everyone goes through it anyway. Mistakes are bound to happen, and that's why SORRIES exist. hahah.. apa punya teori tu?

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2009 TO ALL MY CHINESE DEARIES OUT THERE. WISHING ALL OF YOU A PROSPEROUS, WONDERFUL CHINESE NEW YEAR AND CELEBRATE THIS NEW YEAR MIND BLASTINGLY AND MAKE SURE YOU SAVE SOME ANG PAUS FOR ME! wink~~

Didn't come out of Banggi for two weeks, feel like I don't know many things that happened in the world. At times, living in Banggi makes me feel like I belong to another world where life is much simpler and I complicate things there (muahahaha.. Shoba and Suga will love this statement!).

Been struggling in mud and floods all over the school compound. It was the rainy season in Sabah recently, and I managed to capture a few photos of the heartbreaking, thought provoking images of kids coming to school, even when the usual 30minutes journey changed up to 1 hour!

This is my Year 1,2 and 3 classroom view from my staffroom.. You see it for yourselves! Had to cross the "bridge" every time I had class with them.. I slipped and fell into the "river" which was up to my knee last week! Adoi!!

Nun jauh di sana rumah yang aku tinggal.. ok la tuh, at least I have got a place to stay.. But this time around, there were lots of mosquitoes.. The Astro like "mangkuk" was intended for Internet at school but since it was fixed and until today, it was and is not activated. So, the "mangkok" stays at its place and we all become the "mangkok ayon"! Adoi!!

The first English optionist(the one in Red--that's me le...hehe) in SK Palak Banggi, Pulau Banggi, Kudat, Sabah..

These are my pupils... They go through this everyday... I don't have words to describe my feelings of seeing them like this everyday... Recently, the teachers in the school took some soil from the new-quarters site and poured it at the pathway that the pupils passed by everyday, so that it would ease their trouble a little.. sigh...

Seorang mahasiswa semester akhir menulis surat kepada ayahnya:

Ayah, Saya merasa tidak selesa kerana terus menerus menulis surat kepada ayah untuk meminta wang. Saya merasa malu dan sedih. Saya ingin meminta wang sebanyak Rm1000 dari ayah, walaupun setiap bahagian tubuh saya memberontak. Saya meminta dengan tulus dari hati saya yang paling dalam, ayah maafkan saya.

p/s Saya merasa berat hati untuk mengirimkan surat ini, jadi saya cuba untuk mengejar posmen yang mengambil surat ini dari dalam peti surat. Saya ingin mengambil kembali surat ini dan membakarnya, kerana surat ini pasti menyusahkan hati ayah. Saya berdoa dalam hati agar saya dapat semula surat ini, tapi sudah terlambat.

Yahoo!!! At last, I got to go out to Kudat!! ngeheheheheh...

Been in the jungle for a week, life surrounded with mud and dirt. huhuh.. so pathetic...

was so sad to see the kids coming to school mingled with mud and flood waters.. but i admire their courage.. bravo kids, my prayers for you will be there always.

we are having the cold season right now in Banggi, so, the island is practically flooded! mud, mud and mud everywhere, and no fish-catching activity is allowed, so, no fish for the past one week!!! adoi!!

anyway, workload seems to add on and on and on... tired lah, boss!

Glad to see 4 year 1 pupils in the school.. one boy (Yusry) always cries when any teacher enters the class.. to my surprise, he has stopped crying when I managed to draw an apple and an ant in his exercise book! (wah... aku sudah pandai melukis, bah! thanks to Thulsy for the great encouragement!heheheh)

will update more when I have the chance.. wish me luck ye..

Selamat bertugas kepada semua guru.. Yang baru nak mula kerjaya, selamat datang ke dunia perguruan yang sangat mencabar (not kidding, ada yang nak jadi gila bila pikir pasal keja ni..)

Pada yang dah berkhidmat, tabahkan diri dan kuatkan semangat. You are not alone(although you are in a deserted area where no mobile can reach you--ehem..ehem.. U Mobile pon takda gunanya..ahaks), we are going to have a stiff tough time to not only teach, but educate.

Maybe ada yang tak setuju dgn apa saya cakap, lantak korang lah!

What I know, at the end of the month, halal tak gaji saya?! tepuk dada, tanyalah Iman (tu pon kalau iman nak jawab, jgn aiman tak kesah yang jawab!)

Did not write for some time. Enjoying some peace during the holidays.

Muharram 1430 H has just started. Endless text messages beeped on our mobile phones. Same with me. Thank you, people. Sorry if I did not reply your text messages. I may have forgotten but the thought counts a lot.

New Year 2009 starts tomorrow. As usual, we will have a list of new year resolution. DO we really follow the list or we just merely do that in order to follow the current of what others are doing?
Only we have the answer for that.

I will be back in Sabah very soon. Mixed feelings again, but this time, I will go back with more confidence (ye la, gaji dah ade kan..heheheh).

To all out there, i would love to seek apology for all the hurts I have caused in you, for all the spiteful words I have said and for the unintentional or intentional acts I have done to you. I am very sorry for that.

Happy New Year 1430 Hijriah and Happy New Year 2009. May Allah bless the new year ahead of us and may this year be a better one than the previous years.

Hajj, its relevance and its revelation!

long time didn't write ah?!
sangatlah sedih sebab laptop masih dirawat di hospital laptop.. so, no mood to use the PC.. (eleh, habis madu, sepah dibuang.. dulu ada PC je, pastu dah ada laptop, ngada2 taknak guna.. tak syukur lah tu)..

bukan mcm tu bah.. PC yg dah sangat usang ni makin susah untuk digunakan.. takes hours to tyoe and suddenly, before publishing an entry, it goes blank! daripada I sumpah serana PC ni, baik I guna untuk kerja ringan2 seperti download lagu (ahaks.. kerja ringan weh...hahaha)

anyway, going back to the title.. iduladha has just said bye bye to us.. but what more important than the meat and mutton is the Niat (intentions). why do we bother to sacrifice some goats and cows when we don't even bother to clean our hearts?

the material does not mean much to Allah, what is counted would be the sincerity in the qurban. although it has been ages since the first qurban started by Ibrahim a.s., the essence of it is the one we should highlight.

i went for one of the jumaat prayers in Gelugor, and nearly laughed my heart out during the sermon (opss.. i didn't, because during the sermon we have to be quiet). Dr Danial mentioned that there are places where the mosque people would distribute some coupons per family so that that could be used to "redeem" the meat that are to be given after qurban. what happens today is that there are some human beings who photocopy the coupons just for the sake of the free meat!

BUSY - Being Under Satan's Yolk?

Well, just felt like typing out something.
I have been busy with lost of stuffs..
Got a new cam la! Adoi.. Will upload pics when I get my lappy back on my lap.
For the time being, it is being treated at the Centre because boat trips at banggi and kudat have spoilt the DVD ROM.. sangat kesian.. takpelah ujian Allah tak pernah henti atas hambaNya.

A story to share...

I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality... I wanted to quit my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I asked, "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me...

"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I t ook very good care of them.

I gave them light.

I gave them water.

The fern quickly grew from the earth.

Its brilliant green covered the floor.

Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.

And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the

bamboo. He said.

"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.

But I would not quit.

In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would

not quit." He said.

"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared

to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant...But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.

It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.

I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."

He asked me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots".

"I would not quit on the bamboo.

I will never quit on you."

"Don't compare yourself to others."

He said.

"The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern.

Yet they both make the forest beautiful.."

"Your time will come", God said to me.

"You will rise high"

"How high should I rise?"

I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

I left the forest and brought back this story.

I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you. Never, Never, Never Give up.

For the Prayer is not an option but an opportunity.

Don't tell the Lord how big the problem is,

tell the problem how Great the Lord is!

Been a tiring day. Fatigued. Run Down. Flabbergasted.

opss.. I forgot another favourite word- DISCOMBOBULATED! (syitah mesti bengang lagi dgn perkataan nie.. muahahahah)

Behind all the tiredness, something remarkable is the relation between the mind and the lectures.

Whatever said during the lecture does leave an impact,be it greater or maybe just a simple one to all of us (wait.. if you did not fall asleep during the two-hour slot each)

Educational managements, financial in education and the history do tell us something about the profession we are in.

An old saying goes like this, " As a teacher,we should be a guide by the side and not a sage on the stage"

How far is the truth?

I feel that as teachers, I have to put up with multiple roles so that I won't be distressed with all the endless workloads (hmm... does that mean I must be a hypocrite, adding to THE LIST which has existed so far and there are more people going into the list day by day?!) think about it.

and now..

Time to go to Lalaland, where nobody is a hypocrite there. I love it there. ALTHOUGH IT IS ONLY IN DREAMS, AT LEAST PEACE AND SERENITY is available there, bah!

Got back from BTN already!

What a tiring week! Swear, damn it, bloody flabbergasted!

One thing that made me so happy of the BTN was the Poco2 session... hahahah.. true, indeed, it was wonderful to use the poco-poco dancing/aerobic steps with Chinese, Indian and Malay song and even more wonderful is to see all Chinese, Indian and Malay participants dancing their ethnic dances in poco-poco steps! fuyooo... a big round of applause for the coordinator for being such a sweet lady!

What's more important behind that is the understanding that we share. Put aside the endless talks on Kontrak Sosial (redundantly said to make sure we hate their talks, lol), what more on the LDK sessions which might have hurt us in anyways it could. I feel that the same plates we shared, the food we ate, the jokes we laughed about and most importantly, the thoughts we discussed will remain forever and must be put at front so that this would be the most important agenda everytime we enter a class to TEACH.

The independence we have today will only be passed on to our younger generation if we have the openness and the ability to appreciate what we have.

I end the entry with a saying:-
"To love and to be loved is the greatest thing in existence"

Let's spread our love wings to everyone so that love exists everywhere we go!

Teaching in Sabah...

Hmm.. Stay in Sabah has come up to the fourth month now! Wow, time flies like nobody's business. I realize that I have grown to love the place I am teaching, the kampung people, the teachers, the goats and cows (oh ya, crocodiles are quite rampant in my area-- were they once tame??), and not forgetting, my darling students!

One thing that always lingers in my mind is-- The tidiness in whatever they do! I had my teaching practice back in Penang and was teaching in the heart of the town where pupils there were mostly from well-to-do families and did not have much of a problem as much as financial and education are concerned. I had hard times reading their untidy writing although they were darlings too! But in the place where I am teaching, the kids neatly wrap their textbooks with rice plastic packets or even the black plastic bags which we use as garbage plastic bags here!

To see that disheartens me a lot. But what makes me go all out to teach is their determination. They are indeed very poor in many aspects. Financial wise, they are given everything for free by the school. From school uniforms to pencils and erasers and also the free milk drinks (I had some too..wink wink)

Teaching and learning in class at times tire me a lot. All because there still are pupils who don't even know their ABCs although they are already in Year 4 or 5 or even 6! My question is-- What were the kids doing when they were in the primary classes? What did the teachers do then? To my surprise, when I asked around, I got to know that there were only 4 teachers (the HM, PK1, PK HEM and the one and only surviving Ustaz Wan) to teach 60 pupils all the subjects!

Then I got the answer for my dilemma. What I am doing presently is just drilling the kids whom I am teaching -- Year 1, 4 and 5, with reading. We only did reading lessons for the past three months and subsequently, we came up with writing and speaking lessons. Thanks to lecturers in I4p and UUM for giving us materials during our course which helped me a great deal in teaching songs and simple stories to the kids.

One fine day, my HM asked me-- "Noor, kau tak rasa malu bah menari dan menyanyi dengan tahun satu?".. Blushingly, I answered "Tak lah, lagi seronok ade!" Then he added, "Kau lah cikgu lelaki pertama yang saya tengok rilek2 je bile menari dengan budak2. Baguslah, sekurang2nya ada jugak budak2 tu nyanyi2 lagu orang putih kat sekolah dan rumah diorang, bah!"

wink wink... My HM spies on my class???!!! Ceh!

A long way to go from a very long start!

Well.. The title explains everything.. I haven't written for so long (totally occupied and equipped with school work plus no internet nor mobile coverage at Banggi Island which puts an undeniable full stop on my writings in the Internet!)

Have written in Friendster for a couple of times, but as my dear friends (like Syitah, Yati and not forgetting Dzull and Anne) who have always been motivating (did you people motivate me?! wink wink) to start a blog and keep it updated so that mine wouldn't fall in the "dead blog" category (quoting Dzull), at last, I found the time to start it

I am thankful that I can write here with all my heart and soul (wallaweh, jiwangnyeee..) to share and to be aware, to give and to live and finally to learn and to earn in anyways that can make me and others happy.. (ye ke??!)

I know my future writings would be at times emotional when other times it would be thought provoking and sometimes craving for attention (hahahah), yeah, need your views be it supportive or negative (anything da..) so that it can help me to cope with what I am going through or any of my friends or someone I know is going through any kinds of situation which you can help to repair.

Till then, I adjourn this entry with what Jedy ( a friend in my school) said to me when I first was asked to "teach" English for the teachers there. "Sir, something and everything here is terpelanting!" and my reply was only ... "What the.....????"
